I started this because nobody was teaching me strategy. Just tactics.

Years ago I owned a franchise business. Everyone had a hand out telling me they were the marketing expert, including the franchisor. Every one of them was selling something. Nobody was teaching me how to think about my market. Just the next tactic to buy.

So I started studying small business marketing on my own. The more I looked, the more I realized it wasn't all that different from what the major companies did. Big companies ran marketing as a strategy. Most small businesses were just missing that piece.

That's where my own background came in. Private-label programs, category management analytics off scan data and consumer panels, macro and micro space planning, for retailers most people have shopped at. I brought that discipline into smaller rooms. Same questions, same rigor, no research department required.

Here's what changed for the businesses
I've worked with since.

Somewhere along the way, marketing stopped meaning marketing. It started meaning promotion. Price, product, and place quietly dropped out of the conversation, and a lot of businesses stopped being marketers. They became marketing purchasers, buying clicks from an agency or an ad auction instead of running a strategy of their own.

The businesses that grow are the ones that didn't make that trade. They still run marketing as a strategy inside the business, not a budget line handed to whoever's selling the next platform.

That's what Strategy First is built to restore. Not another vendor with a plan. A diagnostic, done before any pitch, that puts the customer back in the room where the business makes its decisions.

Most competitors can't offer that without breaking their own model. An agency that says marketing strategy is business strategy has to be trusted and paid like a strategy partner, not billed by the campaign. A task-based fractional CMO has to skip the handoff they're paid to manage. An operating system like EOS has to put marketing at the center of the business, and it doesn't. I'm the one person in the room without a model built on keeping the two separate.

Don't take it from me.
